Delivery maturity is a measure that allows a team or organization to evaluate its processes and methods against a clearly defined benchmark. It comes from the delivery experience of the employees and leadership, along with their mindset as a whole.

The robotic process automation (RPA) development life cycle is no different from the standard project development life cycle. The duration of the RPA life cycle may differ from other software development execution life cycles, but the development and delivery mindset are necessary.

Challenges in the RPA life cycle are slightly different in terms of automations built over COTS (commercially off the shelf) products. Dealing with different RPA products and their limitations, irrespective of their agnostic behavior for automating any business process, is vital for bringing delivery maturity.

Any software development or delivery project has unchangeable principles in terms of initiation, planning, design, execution, testing, deployment, rollout and support (or hypercare). It is often perceived that the RPA life cycle is very short and that the development should be very quick, as customization is done on COTS products.
